In this video, we will go over how to get Wyze Lock installed on your door. You must have an existing, separate deadbolt and the Wyze app to complete setup. Setting up Wyze Lock is easy and only requires a Phillips-head screwdriver and about 15 minutes of your time (Full disclosure: Wyze Keypad installation will also need a drill if you want to permanently attach it to the wall.). Hit up our support team if you need any additional help!

Just installed mine. Pretty simple, thanks wyze. I just voted to have an auto lock enabled when leaving geo fence location; reverse of the auto unlock. I haven't checked the auto unlock, but man do I hope it works flawless. I can't stand digging for my house key! Lol. I have outdoor cam, a couple of regular cams, light bulb and all work perfectly. Great job.

No. This is made so you can still use your key. You might be looking for a different product where it replace the inside and outside.

My wyze lock is not working correctly for the life of me I can't figure this out. Every time I open the app to use the lock it tells me I need to recalibrate it. So I turn on the location , Bluetooth and I'm two feet from the Locking four feet from the bridge that plugs into the wall. It keeps telling me you have to be close to your lock. I can't get no closer. I have erased the lockout of my app and reinstalled it , I have unplugged the bridge and re plugged it back in I have reset the lock with the safety pin. It allows me to go through the routine and set it all back up after a few times of using it tells me I need to recalibrate it again. Wyze send me an email asking me to give a rating on the lock and I did not want to bash it until I figure out maybe it's something I am doing wrong. Any help? Thanks

I also have windows on my door, but my deadbolt is keyed on both sides... I should have enough room for it without the window getting in the way, but I was wondering if it would function properly... I saw all the different adapters, but before I start taking my deadbolt apart, was wondering if anyone would happen to know, please

Feature request to Wyze team - I want the one additional option in the auto-lock configuration. An option to auto-lock when you leave home, not just door is closed and a timer. It is basically the reverse of the auto-unlock which uses GPS location to track when you’ve arrived. So with an additional option, if you can configure the door to auto-lock only when GPS indicates that you have left. This feature will make it useful to install this lock on Garage entry doors. Most Americans who live in a house with attached garage, use the garage entry door. I don’t want the auto-lock to happen if I’m home. My kids can get locked into the garage. This will be first in the market and I believe you have all the capability in the hardware to achieve this. Can this feature request be added to your backlog? If not, is there a way for me to customize by writing my own code?

Question: What prevents the lock from unlocking when I approach the door from the inside to see who is at the door? Won't the phone in my pocket accidentally unlock the door for a possible stranger? This lock looks awesome.

you have to leave the house (geofenced area) and then come back for it to trigger an unlock. Your example of being inside the house and walking to the inside of the door wouldn't trigger the unlock.

Its clear Wyze did not design this product in house. There are so many things that are bad about the product. The biggest issue is that it uses AA batteries. Sure they are everywhere and there are decent of recharable AA batteries. I personally use Ikea recharable batteries now. They should have used 18650 batteries. 18650 last so long and are all over the place also. I know some people don't have 18650 or the chargers.. A lot of people don't have smart locks either. I think a large percentage of people who have smart locks either have or would be willing to get 18650 batteries and chargers. Again I would change dozens of other things, but the deal breaker are the batteries. I am using rechargeable AAA batteries in my 4 smart locks. I would gladly change them out for a model that used 18650. If Wyze went with 18650 option they could have gone with a wifi version and gotten the same batter life and not needed a wall adapter. The cost of the wall adapter is the same as the cost of 4 18650 batteries and a charger. zigbee is better than zwave so they at least got that right and the option for bluetooth is a good choice. But the outside and the knob are all wrong. Orange at least nailed their design making it almost impossible to actuate the lock with tools from outside. The lever is perfect for a under the door attack. Yah this lock can be defeated in moments with a 20 dollar tool since most people have a gap on the bottom of their door. IF lever were in an up down position when locked it would have been harder to trigger. Also it should have a center section and the lever should have been rounded and not flat sides for tools to get. NVM everything about this product is horrible. 128bit encryption is fine for now but in 10 years it will be cheap to remotely crack 128bit encryption. Heck its already pretty cheap to crack 128bit encryption.

You should do a video or blog going over all this. I’ve never heard of an under the door attack as you mention, let alone heard of film for the windows. Most of the time I tell people that ask me about my current locks that if someone really wants in they will smash the windows. You bring up a good point about the batteries. I have the pin style locks but maintaining 9v batteries on them even every 2 years on 5 locks is a headache and expensive (a couple are in my barn and shed). I didn’t expect much in terms of beauty from wyze since their products are at a lower price point. But the 128 aes was pretty silly, but likely a hardware limitation to keep the hardware cheap enough that folks could afford it under their brand. I think all these flaws boil down to cost savings for the general consumer. I’d be curious your thoughts on the August pro round locks which seem like they have about the same functionality as these new wyze locks, although obviously a bit more expensive. I am considering switching a couple of my locks to smart locks but it has to be friendly enough that my elderly inlaws can use it, lol. Anyway great comments and points made in your post.
Michael Mantion
Michael Mantion Year ago
@Sam MushroomMan well 4 18650 are cheap and would last 5x as long. Plus they are rechargeable. Guess what you can buy cheap 18650 from amazon too. You sound like a person who doesn't have any smart locks. Its not a huge deal to change batteries once a year or twice if you use rechargeable. But for a couple dollars more I would rather not recharge them for 5 years. It would take SECONDS to defeat this lock with an under door tool. I used them many times to open up hotel rooms when the batteries died. Those same tools work could be used to pull down on the latch with a minor modification. It might take a minute if you have a tight fighting door. if they simply made the lever rounded, had it at 45 degree angles when locked or vertical it would be almost impossible to turn from the outside. Obviously I have use security window film on my windows so you can't smash them and I used 3 inch screws into solid wood for the dead bolt. You aren't breaking down my door. And if you do I am going to hear you and won't ask questions. Why on earth would you have a lock if you have windows that can be shattered? I have 8 exteriors door and don't like throwing away alkaline batteries. So why would I want to change batteries in my locks 16 times a year? Why would I want a lock that a $20 tool can defeat in seconds with almost no noise? Why would I want a weak 128bit encryption over an zigbee? Plus the thing is ugly.
Sam MushroomMan
Sam MushroomMan Year ago
I don't care that it uses AA batteries. They are cheap to buy off Amazon and I understand they should last a year, so no big deal to replace once a year. Someone going under your door to unlock it? Are you serious Bud? This just replaces the existing deadbolt so if someone was that desperate to try and use some tool to wiggle around under the door for 20 minutes, they could do it with the existing lock. A faster and easier way would be to break down the door or an adjacent window.
Michael Mantion
Michael Mantion Year ago
@Norbert Davis honestly at this point 128 is not enough. I have no interest in designing a lock. Its like going to a fast food place, not liking the burger and making your own fast food place. I have more important things to do with my time and money than make a better smart lock.

Did my install last night. The only issue I had was that the dead bolt wasn't perfectly centered on the frame and the deadbolt had too much resistance for the lock. I had to use a file and widen the plate on the door frame so the lock went in easier.

How do you mount the keypad if you have siding and not solid?
Wyze
Wyze Year ago
Hi John, you have a couple of options, both have pros and cons related to your siding. 1) You could simply use the provided screws and drill into the siding and on into the wall of your home (you may need to get longer screws), or 2) you could use a piece of 3M VHB tape (found at your local home improvement store) to permanently adhere the mounting plate to the siding. Option 1 could compromise the weatherproofing provided by your siding. Option 2 could also have negative effects because the adhesive could damage the paint on the siding if you want to remove it. There could be an option 3. The keypad is wireless and could be placed in many close locations. For example, I have my keypad on an adjacent pillar.

@mxdanger No I didn't fail to realize anything. Yes you can still setup locks to be opened by those devices, rather easily I might add. I understand wanting them to integrate into other systems. I would love to have blue iris control all my wyze cams without being stuck on one now abandoned firmware rev forever. They are the best $20 cameras you will ever find. One of the reasons their devices are so cheap is them not having to integrate through wink or smart things hub. They eliminated the middle man. Their devices can still be used in a smart home but it has it's own place. They make EXTREMELY affordable devices that goes through their own ecosystem. It's not for everyone. If you want 1 app to rule them all then you must pay for that privilege and that means higher prices. It's why I still pay much higher prices for security cameras but do have a few wyze cams for different applications. Show me anywhere that you can buy a good quality automated door lock for $90. Most are $170+. Again, Wyze is it's own smart ecosystem. It's great for some, not great for others but it's dang affordable. You can automate most of your home with their products and not have a fraction of the cost the "big" brands cost. In fact I think I would say, at least for this moment in time, they are the safer smarthome brand to use because they are less known. It's not going to stay that way, they already had a data breach on their servers so hackers are taking notice of their potential in this economy. So explain to me how this smartlock would benefit being attached to say wink. They actually have on their website that there will be integration with alexa and google, personally a bad idea in my opinion but that's just me. Their system will autodetect you outside coming in and unlock the door without you doing anything, then once inside will lock back automatically. You will be able to give access to others to come in, you can unlock or lock it from anywhere. So again, what more do you need? I'm assuming you're wanting the integration for if the lock is breached that it could tell your security system to start recording or things like that? Something I'm sure is probably going to be built in for the other wyze devices as they do allow that for their ecosystem. Again, I'm sure they could integrate it into the other hubs but then these devices wouldn't still be dirt cheap.
Darren Cole
Darren Cole Year ago
@mxdanger Wyzze doesn't need that stuff, it is its own system. You can tie some of it's stuff to google or alexa but you never want to tie a door lock to those devices. That's just a disaster waiting to happen.
